FOLLICLE is a film about a man who is on a quest where he discovers his ability to influence and change the world by understanding the power that lies within hair. Many are under the impression that the natural hair movement among African Americans is a localized happening, but it is not.
Our friend Rhadames Julian is on an honorable and profound journey to document the world’s natural hair movement. From South Africa, Paris, New York and abroad, Rhadames is on a mission to highlight the worldwide embracing of curly, wavy, and kinky hair. FOLLICLE shows the interconnectedness and beauty of women of African descent worldwide.
We met Rhadames in NY a few years back and must say integrity, humbleness, focus, and duty to Black, African Americans, and Africans world wide can occupy the same space at the same time. Rhadames epiphany for FOLLICLE came from living in Capetown, South Africa and discovering that women there shared the same social issues and empowerment through their hair. Every since then, Rhadames has dedicated his focus to documenting this movement of hair and empowerment.
